Maternity Session Prep
When To Schedule
Maternity photos are taken around 26-32 ish weeks. We want your belly to be big enough to see, but not too big where you’re uncomfortable or unable to get into certain positions.
Keep a watch on how you're growing and let me know when your belly starts to show. At that point we'll set a date for your maternity session.
Studio sessions are generally scheduled Monday - Friday 9:30 am - 2:30 pm. Weekends and after hours are available with a $49 fee.
For children in school, I recommend treating this like any other appointment. We have school excuses available if requested.
What To Expect
In- Studio
My studio is called Collective and it's located at 523 Georgia Ave in downtown North Augusta. There is street parking in the front and we have grass parking in the back. The studio contains a dressing room and a bathroom.
Full maternity sessions take approximately 1 hour to complete (minis are 20 minutes). We begin with family/couple images and finish with solo images. We have a selection of toys for little ones to play with, but if you feel that 1 hour may be too long for them, a good option can be for you and your partner to drive separately so that they can take the little ones home after we have completed their part of the session.
We are located near an ice cream parlor, bakery, and food restaurants if they would enjoy taking a stroll for a treat instead.
What To Wear
The biggest and arguably most important thing you should do to prepare for your photo session is choosing the right outfit(s). We don’t all have “photo ready” clothing in our closets, so going for a shopping trip may be in order. But believe me when I say that your outfits can make or break your photos. To achieve the look you most often see in my portfolios, I recommend wearing neutral colors: creams, whites, greys, browns, and blacks.
Sessions are allotted up to 3 outfit changes. Take advantage of these! Outfit changes help create different emotions and add variety to your gallery.
A good variety example would be a casual outfit, a dressy outfit, and an intimate outfit.
Another way to help add variety to your gallery is to include your partner and/or children in your session.
If family will be included in your photos, avoid having everyone in blue jeans.
I have a small collection of gowns available for mothers to wear. You can view them on my Instagram highlights.
